At Selfapy it is our mission to make professional psychological care available to anyone who needs it. In collaboration with university professors and psychotherapists, we develop online courses to help people fight depression, anxiety, and burnout. We offer our users immediate, scientifically sound psychological help, free of charge on prescription. As a certified medical product, we were already able to help over 40.000 users.
From January 2023 on we are looking for support for our passionate Product team. Join Selfapy as a Usability & Design Lead (d/f/m) and help us to design the future of digital health. This role will be the perfect match for you if you're excited about leading a multidisciplinary team (consisting of UX Researchers, Product Designers, Marketing Designers, Illustrators as well as multi-media production partners) and playing an integral part in defining how we deliver mindful experiences while navigating the complexities and responsibilities of a medical-grade platform.
These will be your main objectives:
Usability & Design
- You ensure that our Usability Engineering process is compliant with medical product class IIa and that team members are trained effectively.
- You extend and enable a consistent design language across the company including product, content, marketing and sales design.
- You evolve, expand and update Usability and Design techniques, methods and tools to reflect current trends and best practices.
Leadership & Growth
- You understand yourself as a coach and mentor for your team members and support them in unleashing their full potential by sharing your knowledge, conducting regular feedback sessions, integrating best-practices and helping them to achieve their career goals.
- You build thought leadership across a range of emerging business, technology and design topics to help the team uncover pain points and opportunities (discovery workshops, competitor and trend analyses).
- You establish and foster effective collaboration between your team members and their respective Product Squads in an agile environment.
- You are responsible for scaling and qualifying the team (UX Researchers, Product Designers, Marketing Designers, Illustrators, multi-media production partners)
- > by maintaining capacity & budget planning.
> by running a successful hiring of new team members.
> by securing a high quality onboarding, growth and performance experience by initiating great team retention initiatives by ceremonies, role designs, team events, etc.

Vision, Strategy & Roadmap
- In close alignment with our Head of Product, you support in developing and communicating a vision, strategy and roadmap for an efficient and safe patient experience to make sure the human perspective is the guiding principle along the whole process.
Who we are looking for:
- You have gained multiple years of working experience in a similar role or in one of the following fields: Strategic Design, Design Thinking Coach, UX Design, Product Design, Innovation Management, Human Factors, Usability Engineering, UX Research and ideally also hold a degree in one of these areas.
- You have excellent written and spoken English skills. Profound German skills are big plus.
- You have a strong portfolio providing insights about the way you think and tackle problems.
- You are a true people person and care about the well-being and development of your team members. You've successfully proven your strong leadership skills in previous roles.
- You are a curious mind who is interested in staying on top of things, digging deep into industry best-practices, analysing the latest market trends and sharing gained insights within your team and your stakeholders.
- You have a pragmatic approach, know how to balance business and people needs and when & where to make trade-offs.
- You feel comfortable working in a fast-paced and highly-regulated environment, dealing with ambiguity and facing unique challenges.
Bonus points for:
- Proficient German skills.
- Experience working with medical products or working in a highly-regulated environment.
