About us:
Recare is the technology partner for optimal discharge management. With its software-as-a-service platform, the company enables simple and efficient discharge and transition processes for patients who require further care after their hospital stay. With the acquisition of Pflegeplatzmanager GmbH in summer 2023, the digital marketplace has grown to 820 acute hospitals, 650 rehabilitation clinics, and 24,000 other service providers from care and aids/homecare sectors. Recare was founded in 2017 and is based in Berlin.
About the position:
The role of Lead Clinical Data Integration & AI Enablement at Recare focuses on developing a scalable and efficient data architecture to enable deep extraction, structuring, and utilization of clinical data. The goal is to go beyond existing HL7 and FHIR interfaces to access more comprehensive clinical information, including the extraction and structuring of unstructured data from documents and hospital information systems (HIS) via documents and database interfaces.
The person in this role will work operationally, develop and implement technical solutions, and collaborate closely with internal AI teams and external hospital IT partners.

Tasks where you can grow as our Lead Clinical Data Integration & AI Enablement:
Data Integration & Architecture
  • Develop processes for extraction and structuring of clinical data for AI applications.
  • Identify and overcome limitations of existing interfaces (HL7v2, FHIR, DICOM).
  • Design a scalable data pipeline processing both structured and unstructured data.
Technical Implementation & Interface Development
  • Build new API concepts or middleware solutions for extended connection of clinical systems.
  • Evaluate and integrate technologies for processing unstructured clinical data (e.g., NLP for free-text documentation).
  • Work closely with hospital IT teams to customize existing systems.
  • Build partnerships with specialized solution providers.
AI Data Provision & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure completeness, correctness, and usability of extracted data for AI models.
  • Develop methods for cleaning, anonymizing, and pseudonymizing sensitive patient data.
  • Collaborate with AI teams to optimize data quality for machine learning.
Regulatory & Security Requirements
  • Ensure all processes comply with GDPR, HIPAA, and MDR.
  • Develop secure data access mechanisms to minimize legal risks.
  • Support certifications and audits in data processing.
Stakeholder Management & Hospital Collaboration
  • Work with hospital partners to enable extended data access.
  • Communicate with external system providers to evaluate new integration options.
  • Document and transfer knowledge to internal teams to ensure sustainable use of developed solutions.

A successful Lead Clinical Data Integration & AI Enablement has significantly contributed to:
  • Accessing new clinical data sources beyond HL7/FHIR interfaces with unstructured and deeper data from clinical systems accessible.
  • Structured availability of data from free texts, images, PDFs, and proprietary clinical systems.
  • Implementing a robust technical architecture for data processing.
  • Deploying a scalable and efficient data pipeline adaptable for various hospital partners.
  • Providing relevant data in real-time or with minimal latency.
  • Optimizing data for AI models with complete, quality-assured data prepared for machine learning.
  • Close collaboration with AI teams to create the best possible data foundation for model training and inference.
  • Ensuring compliance and data protection with regulatory requirements met and safe processes.
  • Established pseudonymization and anonymization mechanisms.
  • Making hospital integration more efficient with transparent and simple processes for partners and efficient implementation of individual interface adjustments.

Requirements

How we imagine you as our Lead Clinical Data Integration & AI Enablement:
  • Solid knowledge of hospital IT, HIS systems, and clinical data formats (HL7, FHIR, DICOM).
  • Familiarity with clinical documents such as doctor's letters and medication plans.
  • Experience with data integration, APIs, ETL processes, and building data platforms for AI.
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies.
  • Experience with machine learning data pipelines and ensuring data quality.
  • Familiarity with GDPR and other data protection requirements.
  • Initial experience with AI technology in the health data context.
  • Excellent German and English skills in speaking and writing.
Summary:
This position is operational and technically focused, aiming to make clinical data usable for AI at a new level and depth. The Lead Clinical Data Integration & AI Enablement will play a crucial role in extracting and structuring the full scope of clinical data – a core prerequisite for Recare's vertical AI strategy.
