Staff Electrical Engineer

What You Will Do:
Join the hardware team working on future wearables and accessory devices. This role reports to the Director of Hardware and is hybrid to either San Diego or San Francisco.
- System design and development including electrical architecture, system integration, and new technology development.
- Drive miniaturization and ultra-low power operation through custom hardware development, power modeling, and hardware/software optimization.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical engineering, RF engineering, and vendors to solve complex technical problems.
- Develop and manage system performance and validation plans around EMI/ESD, coexistence, and reliability.
- Work with leadership to help define and refine product roadmaps and timelines.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with significant experience as a hardware engineer or architect in consumer electronics.
- Project Experience: 10+ years designing and shipping high-volume consumer electronics products. Experience with ultra-low power microprocessors, SoCs, MEMS sensors, wireless technologies, and manufacturing. Connected wearables and optical sensing experience preferred.
- System Design: Experience designing and validating analog and digital systems, including component selection, system architecture, and signal processing. Familiarity with compute blocks (CPUs, NPUs, DSPs, ISPs) and communication protocols (UART, I2C, MIPI, SPI, and others).
- Size and Power Optimization: Experience with silicon definition and customization, designing for low power operation, and power modeling.
- Performance and Quality: High bar for quality with extensive experience identifying performance and reliability risks and validating designs.
- Problem-Solving and Leadership: Comfortable with ambiguity, able to drive tasks independently, mentor across organizations, and communicate issues clearly.
- Communication and Collaboration: Able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and contribute to project planning and documentation.

Oura uses a market-based approach to pay that varies by location. US locations are categorized into tiers. Salary ranges listed on the job page:
- Region 1: $216,750 - $255,000
- Region 2: $169,000 - $211,000
Successful candidates' pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, internal equity, and market conditions.
