Health, Safety, Environment & Compliance (HSEC) Coordinator

The Rosalind Franklin Institute (the Franklin) is a UK-based technology institute that brings together researchers in life and physical sciences and engineering to develop tools that will transform healthcare. This role sits within the Operations team and will support the H&S Advisor, Facilities, Quality, HR and Laboratory Managers to coordinate Health & Safety, Environmental and compliance activity across the Institute.

Key responsibilities

Health and Safety
  • Work with the H&S Advisor and Laboratory Managers to ensure staff are familiar with health and safety risks, controls and emergency procedures.
  • Support audits and inspections, incident reporting and prepare reports; monitor resolution of issues arising by collaborating with Laboratory Managers and staff.
  • Assist in preparing Health and Safety documentation (Safety Codes, COSHH, Risk Assessments etc.) and promote health, safety and compliance within the Institute.
  • Carry out site H&S inductions for new employees, contractors and visitors, and monitor/manage contractor access.
  • Assist with maintaining fire procedures, including drills and regular checks on equipment in conjunction with the Building Fire Manager.
  • Support the Health and Safety work plan and actively participate in H&S Committee meetings.
Environmental
  • Work with the responsible person to monitor correct disposal of hazardous waste in line with policy and regulations.
  • Assist in collating environmental and sustainability data, ensuring adherence to environmental legislation.
General
  • Maintain a database of prior audit recommendations and solutions.
  • Assist with preparation of statistical and analysis reports across HSEC areas.
  • Ensure proper filing and document control of all HSEC records, including training and certification.
Training
  • Write and oversee regular reviews and issue of documents for compliance training.
  • Maintain high-quality training records/registers for regulatory compliance and institutional reporting.
  • Coordinate H&S training, monitor completion and report to committees; arrange regular training of First Aiders and Fire Marshalls.
Other duties
  • Support scientists and visitors with ad hoc requests.
  • Exercise personal and Institute responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and related legislation.
  • Carry out any other duties as required by the H&S Advisor within the skills of the post holder.
