Job description

Job Overview

At gematik GmbH, we enable over 80 million people in Germany to benefit from digital healthcare. We work on products such as the electronic prescription (eRezept) and the electronic patient record (ePA).
The Systems Engineering department oversees the architecture of the technical infrastructure for healthcare applications in Germany. Architects in this team design the solution architectures for services and applications in the German healthcare system with the goal of making complex technologies simple and usable for patients and doctors alike.
Our responsibilities range from overarching architecture topics for large distributed systems, expertise in specific technologies, to methodology and quality assurance of technical concepts. Applications include the electronic patient record, e-prescription, the secure communication service KIM, the TI messenger, and the German electronic reporting and information system for infection protection (DEMIS). We maintain ongoing dialog with the user community throughout development.
You will specifically be responsible for the conception and further development of the secure communication service KIM (Communication in Medicine), widely used in medical care, for example for electronic certificates of incapacity for work. You actively accompany all phases from architecture and standardization to development and rollout.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an agile, interdisciplinary team on the architecture of the secure email service KIM, which securely connects doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and health insurance providers, forming the communication backbone for many specialist procedures such as the electronic certificate of incapacity for work.
  • Define minimum requirements and interfaces and ensure uniform security and interoperability levels.
  • Advise internal and external development teams on design decisions, standard compliance, and interoperability, supporting implementation of our requirements.
  • Engage directly with manufacturers of KIM components and operators of KIM services through various collaboration formats such as regular office hours, connectathons, and by handling 3rd level support tickets.
  • Evaluate and assess new technologies, model new interfaces for exchanging medical data, and create proofs of concept, demonstrators, and prototypes.
  • Support suppliers during testing as part of the approval process.

Profile

  • You have a degree in a technical or scientific field.
  • You have several years of professional experience in the conception, development, and handling of secure communications. Experience with agile working methods like SCRUM is expected. You have excellent knowledge in modeling and maintaining technical solution and security architectures and implementing data protection requirements. Experience with operational requirements is an advantage.
  • You possess a strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and API design. You have broad knowledge of communication protocols (POP3, IMAP, SMTP), RESTful APIs, TLS, X509 certificates, S/MIME, and identity services based on OpenID Connect and OAuth2. Knowledge of FHIR is a plus.
  • You work in a structured way with very good conceptual skills and find creative, sustainable solutions.
  • You are a communicative personality who enjoys teamwork, is curious and open-minded, experimental, and solution-oriented.
  • You have very good German and English language skills in both spoken and written form.
You do not meet all requirements? No problem, apply anyway! We review every application individually and look forward to discovering your unique skills and experiences.
