Job description

Job Overview

We want to make a difference – are you in? We ensure that over 80 million people in Germany can benefit from digital healthcare. You may already know some of our products like the ePrescription or the electronic patient record (ePA). Help us shape the healthcare system of tomorrow.
Your area: Systems Engineering
The Systems Engineering department is responsible for the architecture of the technical infrastructure for applications in the German healthcare system. As architects, we design the solution architecture of services and applications for the German healthcare system. Our goal is to make complex technologies easy to use for patients and doctors.
Our tasks range from overarching architectural topics for large distributed systems to expertise in specific technologies as well as methods and quality assurance of technical concepts. Our applications include the electronic patient record, ePrescription, the secure communication service KIM, the TI Messenger, and the German electronic reporting and information system for infection protection DEMIS. Throughout development, we maintain active communication with the user community.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the conception and further development of the secure communication service KIM (Communication in Medicine), which is now extensively used in medical care – for example, for electronic sick notes. You will actively accompany all phases from architecture and standardization to development and rollout.

Your Tasks

  • You work in an agile and interdisciplinary team on the architecture of the secure email service KIM, which securely connects doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and health insurers and forms the communication backbone for many specialized procedures such as electronic sick leave certificates.
  • You define minimum requirements and interfaces and ensure uniform security and interoperability levels.
  • You advise internal and external development teams on design decisions, standard compliance, and interoperability and support them in implementing the requirements we set.
  • You are in direct contact with the manufacturers of KIM components and operators of KIM services and support them through various collaboration formats such as regular office hours, connectathons, or by answering 3rd level support tickets.
  • You evaluate and assess new technologies, model new interfaces for medical data exchange, and create proofs of concept, demonstrators, and prototypes.
  • You support suppliers in testing during the approval process.

Your Profile

  • Degree: You have successfully completed a technical-scientific degree.
  • Experience: You have several years of professional experience in designing, developing, and handling secure communications. You also have experience with agile working according to SCRUM. You have excellent knowledge in modeling and updating technical solution and security architectures as well as implementing data protection requirements. Experience with operational requirements would also be advantageous.
  • Tool & Method Knowledge: You have a profound understanding of software architecture, system integration, and API design. You bring broad knowledge of communication protocols (POP3, IMAP, SMTP), RESTful APIs, TLS, X509 certificates, S/MIME, and identity services based on OpenID Connect and OAuth2. Knowledge in FHIR would be a plus.
  • Work Style: You shine with your structured approach, excellent conceptual skills, and find creative solutions that are sustainable and long-lasting.
  • Personality: As a strong communicator, you enjoy contributing your curiosity and openness to the team. You are also experimental and always act solution-oriented.
  • Language: You have very good German and English skills in speaking and writing.
You do not meet all the requirements? No problem, apply anyway! We review each application individually and look forward to learning about your unique skills and experience.

What We Offer You

  • Meaningful Job: We are updating the healthcare system – think digital health with us.
  • Perspective & Development: We offer permanent employment with long-term perspectives. Not only a secure workplace but also diverse opportunities for personal and professional development – through individual training, the "employees train employees" program, workshops, fairs, and conferences.
  • Agile Work Environment: We focus on cross-departmental exchange and collaboration in cross-functional teams. Joint learning and joy at work are at the forefront.
  • Benefits: In addition to an attractive salary, we offer 30 days of vacation plus additional days off on December 24th and 31st, health and sports offers, subsidies for the Deutschlandticket, employee events, corporate benefits, and more.
  • Mobile Work: Mobile work is possible within Germany, as well as up to a 30-day workation in the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland.
  • Work-Life Balance: We value the compatibility of private life and career, so you can design your working hours flexibly. We are flexible and accommodate your individual needs, including re-entry after parental leave – also part-time if it suits you.
We look forward to you!

Diversity makes us strong! Everyone has equal opportunities with us regardless of gender, disability, age, ethnic or religious background, or re-entry after parental leave. Your contribution improves the healthcare of tomorrow! We believe a respectful, appreciative, and open interaction is fundamental to digitalizing the healthcare system successfully.
