Job description

Job Overview

We want to make a difference – are you in? We ensure that over 80 million people in Germany benefit from digital healthcare. You might already know some of our products, like the ePrescription or the electronic patient record (ePA). Shape the healthcare system of tomorrow with us.

Your Work Area: Systems Engineering

The Systems Engineering department is responsible for the architecture of the technical infrastructure for applications in the German healthcare system. As architects, we design the base architecture of the platform for digital health applications in Germany – the telematics infrastructure.
Our tasks range from overarching architecture topics for large distributed systems to expertise in specific technologies, as well as methodology and quality assurance of technical concepts. Our open, secure platform serves as the basis for the electronic patient record, ePrescription, the secure communication service KIM, the TI Messenger, and the German Electronic Reporting and Information System for Infection Protection (DEMIS). Throughout development, we maintain active communication with the user community.
In addition to managing already deployed systems based on SOAP, IHE XDS.b, WS-Security, smart cards, and IPSec, we work on new solutions based on REST, HL7 FHIR, OpenID Connect, OAuth2, FIDO2, remote signatures, secure private cloud, and zero-trust networking.

Your Tasks

  • You work in an agile and interdisciplinary team on the basic architecture for applications that securely network doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and patients.
  • You define minimum requirements and interfaces and ensure uniform security and interoperability levels.
  • You advise internal and external development teams on design decisions, standard compliance, and interoperability and support them in implementing the requirements we set.
  • You evaluate and assess new technologies, model new interfaces for exchanging medical data, and create proofs of concept, demonstrators, and prototypes.
  • You support testing as part of the approval process.

Your Profile

  • Degree: You have successfully completed your technical or scientific studies.
  • Experience: You have several years of professional experience in the conception, development, and handling of distributed safety-critical systems. You have excellent skills in modeling and updating technical solution and security architectures, as well as in implementing data protection requirements. You have experience with agile working according to SCRUM.
  • Tool & Method Knowledge: You have a strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and API design. You possess sound knowledge of fundamental internet technologies (e.g., HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, Routing) and modern web APIs (e.g., OpenAPI, REST). You bring basic knowledge in cloud infrastructures (e.g., container technologies, microservices) and understand the fundamental principles of distributed systems. Additionally, you have good knowledge of security concepts, including TLS, PKI, and common authentication methods (e.g., OAuth2).
  • Working Style: You excel with your structured approach, very good conceptual skills, and find creative solutions that are sustainable and long-lasting quality.
  • Personality: As a communicative personality, you enjoy engaging in the team with your curiosity and openness. You are also experimental and always act solution-oriented.
  • Language: You have very good German and English skills, both written and spoken.
If you do not meet all the requirements? No problem, apply anyway! We review every application individually and look forward to getting to know your unique skills and experiences.

What We Offer

  • Meaningful job: We are updating the healthcare system – think digital health with us.
  • Perspective & Development: We offer you a permanent position with long-term perspectives. Besides a secure workplace, we offer diverse personal and professional development opportunities through individual training, the "Employees Train Employees" program, workshops, trade fairs, and conferences.
  • Agile work environment: Our focus is on cross-departmental exchange and collaboration in cross-functional teams. Joint learning and joy in work are paramount.
  • Benefits: In addition to an attractive salary, we offer 30 days of vacation plus additional days off on December 24 and 31, health and sports activities, subsidies for the Deutschlandticket, employee events, corporate benefits, and much more.
  • Mobile working: Mobile work within Germany is possible, as well as up to a 30-day workation in the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland.
  • Work-life balance: Work-life balance is important to us, so you can arrange your working hours flexibly. We are flexible and accommodate your individual needs, including re-entry after parental leave – also part-time if it suits you.
We look forward to hearing from you! Diversity makes us strong! Therefore, all people have equal opportunities with us, regardless of gender, disability, age, ethnic or religious affiliation, or if you are re-entering after parental leave. Your contribution improves the healthcare of tomorrow! We are convinced that respectful, appreciative, and open interaction is the basis for successfully digitalizing the healthcare system.
