Job description

Job Overview

We want to make a difference – will you join us? We ensure that over 80 million people in Germany benefit from digital healthcare. You might already be familiar with some of our products, like the ePrescription or the electronic patient record (ePA). Shape the healthcare system of tomorrow with us.

Your Work Area: Systems Engineering

The Systems Engineering department is responsible for the architecture of the technical infrastructure for applications in the German healthcare sector. As architects, we design the base architecture of the platform for digital applications in the German healthcare system – the telematics infrastructure.
Our tasks range from overarching architecture topics for large distributed systems to expertise in specific technologies and methodology and quality assurance of technical concepts. Our open, secure platform serves as the basis for the electronic patient record, the ePrescription, the secure communication service KIM, the TI messenger, as well as the German Electronic Reporting and Information System for Infection Protection DEMIS. Throughout the entire development, we maintain regular exchange with the user community.
In addition to supporting the already rolled-out systems based on SOAP, IHE XDS.b, WS-Security, smart cards, and IPSec, we are working on new solutions based on REST, HL7 FHIR, OpenID Connect and OAuth2, FIDO2, remote signatures, secure private cloud, and zero-trust networking.

Your Tasks

  • You work in an agile and interdisciplinary team on the base architecture for applications that securely connect doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and patients.
  • You define minimum requirements and interfaces and ensure uniform security and interoperability levels.
  • You advise internal and external development teams on design decisions, standards compliance, and interoperability and support them in implementing the requirements we set.
  • You evaluate and assess new technologies, model new interfaces for exchanging medical data, and create proofs of concept, demonstrators, and prototypes.
  • You support testing within the approval process.

Your Profile

  • Degree: You have successfully completed a technical or scientific degree.
  • Experience: You have several years of professional experience in the conception, development, and handling of distributed safety-critical systems. You have excellent knowledge in modeling and updating technical solution and security architectures as well as in implementing data protection requirements. You are experienced with agile work according to SCRUM.
  • Tool & Method Knowledge: You have a strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and API design. You possess sound knowledge of basic Internet technologies (e.g., HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, routing) and modern web APIs (e.g., OpenAPI, REST). You have basic knowledge in the area of cloud infrastructures (e.g., container technologies, microservices) and understand the fundamental principles of distributed systems. Furthermore, you have a good understanding of security concepts, including TLS, PKI, and common authentication procedures (e.g., OAuth2).
  • Work Style: You shine with your structured approach, very good conceptual skills, and find creative solutions that are of sustainable quality and duration.
  • Personality: As a communicative personality, you like to engage with your curiosity and openness in the team. You are also experimental and always act solution-oriented.
  • Language: You have very good German and English skills, both spoken and written.
You do not meet all the requirements? No problem, apply anyway! We review each application individually and look forward to learning about your unique skills and experiences.

What We Offer You

  • Job with Purpose: We are updating the healthcare system – think digital health with us.
  • Perspective & Development: We offer you a permanent position with long-term prospects. Not only do we provide a secure workplace, but also diverse opportunities for personal and professional development – through individual training, the "Employees train Employees" program, workshops, trade fairs, and conferences.
  • Agile Work Environment: We focus on interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration in cross-functional teams. Joint learning and joy at work are paramount.
  • Benefits: Besides an attractive salary, we offer you 30 days of vacation plus additional days off on 24th and 31st December, health and sports offers, subsidies for the Deutschlandticket, employee events, corporate benefits, and much more.
  • Mobile Work: Mobile working is possible within Germany, as well as up to 30 days of workation in European countries (EU, EEA, Switzerland).
  • Work-Life Balance: Balancing private life and work is important to us, so you can arrange your working hours flexibly. We are flexible and accommodate your individual needs, including re-entry after parental leave – preferably also part-time if it suits you.
We look forward to you! Diversity makes us strong! Therefore, everyone has equal opportunities with us, regardless of gender, disability, age, ethnic or religious background, or whether you are returning to work after parental leave. Your contribution improves the healthcare of tomorrow! We are convinced: A respectful, appreciative, and open interaction is the foundation for successfully digitizing the healthcare system.
