Job description

(Senior) Architect eHealth Platform (all genders)

We want to make a difference – will you join us? We ensure that over 80 million people in Germany benefit from digital healthcare. You might already know some of our products like ePrescription or the electronic patient record (ePA). Help us shape the healthcare system of tomorrow.

Your work area: Systems Engineering

The Systems Engineering department is responsible for the architecture of the technical infrastructure for applications in German healthcare. As architects, we design the basic architecture of the platform for digital applications in German healthcare – the Telematics Infrastructure.
Our tasks range from overarching architectural topics for large distributed systems to expertise in specific technologies to methodology and quality assurance of technical concepts. Our open, secure platform serves as the basis for the electronic patient record, the ePrescription, the secure communication service KIM, the TI-Messenger, and also for the German Electronic Reporting and Information System for Infection Protection (DEMIS). Throughout development, we stay in close contact with the user community.
In addition to supporting already rolled-out systems based on SOAP, IHE XDS.b, WS-Security, Smartcards, and IPSec, we work on new solutions based on REST, HL7 FHIR, OpenID Connect and OAuth2, FIDO2, remote signatures, Secure Private Cloud, and Zero Trust Networking.

Your tasks

  • You work in an agile and interdisciplinary team on the basic architecture for applications that securely connect doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and patients.
  • You define minimum requirements and interfaces and ensure uniform security and interoperability levels.
  • You advise internal and external development teams on design decisions, standard compliance, and interoperability and support them in implementing requirements set by us.
  • You evaluate and assess new technologies, model new interfaces for exchanging medical data, and create proof of concepts, demonstrators, and prototypes.
  • You support testing within the approval process.

Your profile

  • Degree: You have successfully completed your technical-scientific studies.
  • Experience: You can demonstrate several years of professional experience in the conception, development, and handling of distributed safety-critical systems. You have excellent skills in modeling and updating technical solution and security architectures as well as implementing data protection requirements. You have experience with agile work following SCRUM.
  • Tool & method knowledge: You have a strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and API design. You have in-depth knowledge of basic internet technologies (e.g., HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, Routing) and modern web APIs (e.g., OpenAPI, REST). You bring basic knowledge in cloud infrastructures (e.g., container technologies, microservices) and understand the basic principles of distributed systems. Furthermore, you have a good understanding of security concepts, including TLS, PKI, and common authentication methods (e.g., OAuth2).
  • Working style: You excel with your structured approach, very good conceptual skills, and find creative solutions of sustainable quality and endurance.
  • Personality: As a communicative personality, you enjoy engaging in the team with your curiosity and openness. You are also experimental and always act solution-oriented.
  • Language: You have very good German and English skills in spoken and written form.
You do not meet all requirements? No problem, apply anyway! We review every application individually and look forward to getting to know your unique skills and experiences.

What we offer you

  • Job with meaning: We are updating the healthcare system – think digital health with us.
  • Perspective & development: With us, you get a permanent position with long-term prospects. We offer not only a secure job but also diverse opportunities for personal and professional development – through individual training, the "employees train employees" program, workshops, fairs, and conferences.
