Job description

Job Description

We want to make a difference – are you in? We ensure that over 80 million people in Germany can benefit from digital healthcare. You might already know some of our products such as the ePrescription or the electronic patient record (ePA). Join us in shaping the health system of tomorrow.

Your Area of Work: Systems Engineering

The Systems Engineering department is responsible for the architecture of the technical infrastructure for applications in the German healthcare system. We as architects design the base architecture of the platform for digital applications in the German healthcare system – the telematics infrastructure.
Our tasks range from overarching architecture topics for large distributed systems through expertise in specific technologies to methodology and quality assurance of technical concepts. Our open, secure platform serves as the basis for the electronic patient record, the ePrescription, the secure communication service KIM, the TI Messenger, but also for the German electronic reporting and information system for infection protection DEMIS. Throughout the development, we maintain regular exchange with the user community.
In addition to supporting the already deployed systems based on SOAP, IHE XDS.b, WS-Security, Smartcards, and IPSec, we work on new solutions based on REST, HL7 FHIR, OpenID Connect and OAuth2, FIDO2, remote signatures, secure private cloud, and Zero Trust Networking.

Your Tasks

  • You work in an agile and interdisciplinary team on the base architecture for applications that securely network doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and patients.
  • You define minimum requirements and interfaces and ensure uniform security and interoperability levels.
  • You advise internal and external development teams on design decisions, standard compliance, and interoperability and support them in implementing the requirements we set.
  • You evaluate and assess new technologies, model new interfaces for the exchange of medical data, and create proof of concepts, demonstrators, and prototypes.
  • You support testing within the framework of the approval process.

Your Profile

  • Degree: You have successfully completed your technical-scientific studies.
  • Experience: You have several years of professional experience in the conception, development, and handling of distributed safety-critical systems. You have excellent knowledge in modeling and updating technical solution and security architectures as well as implementing data protection requirements. You have experience with agile working according to SCRUM.
  • Tool & Method Knowledge: You have a strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and API design. You have profound knowledge of basic internet technologies (e.g. HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, Routing) and modern web APIs (e.g. OpenAPI, REST). You bring basic knowledge in cloud infrastructures (e.g. container technologies, microservices) and understand the fundamental principles of distributed systems. In addition, you have a good understanding of security concepts, including TLS, PKI, and common authentication methods (e.g. OAuth2).
  • Work Style: You shine with your structured approach, very good conceptual skills, and find creative solutions that are sustainable and long lasting.
  • Personality: As a communicative personality, you like to engage with your curiosity and openness in the team. You are also experimental and always act solution-oriented.
  • Language: You have very good German and English skills, both written and spoken.
You do not meet all the requirements? No problem, apply anyway! We review each application individually and look forward to getting to know your unique skills and experiences.

What We Offer You

  • Job with Meaning: We are updating the health system – think digital health with us.
  • Perspective & Development: We offer you a permanent position with long-term perspectives. You get not only a secure workplace but also many opportunities for personal and professional development – through individual training, the "employees train employees" program, workshops, trade fairs, and conferences.
  • Agile Work Environment: We focus on cross-departmental exchange and collaboration in cross-functional teams. Joint learning and joy at work are paramount.
  • Benefits: In addition to an attractive salary, we offer you 30 days of vacation plus additional days off on December 24th and 31st, health and sports offers, subsidies for the Germany ticket, employee events, corporate benefits, and much more.
  • Mobile Work: Mobile work is possible within Germany, as well as up to 30 days of workation in European countries (EU, EEA, Switzerland).
  • Work-Life Balance: Balancing private life and work is important to us, so you can organize your working hours flexibly. We are flexible and respond to your individual needs, including re-entry after parental leave – happily also part-time if it suits you.
We look forward to hearing from you! Diversity makes us strong! Therefore, everyone has equal opportunities with us, regardless of gender, disability, age, ethnic or religious affiliation, or whether you re-enter after parental leave. Your contribution improves the healthcare of tomorrow! We believe that respectful, appreciative, and open interaction is the foundation for successfully digitalizing the health system.
