Job Description
Waltz Health is seeking an experienced and compassionate Pharmacist to join our Bolero Specialty Pharmacy team. This role offers the opportunity to provide expert medication management, clinical support, and patient education for individuals with complex medical conditions. You will play a critical role in collaborating with healthcare providers and patients to ensure the safe, effective, and timely delivery of specialty medications.
In this role you will report to the Pharmacist-in-Charge and oversee the day-to-day functions of Bolero Specialty Pharmacy. You will be responsible for educating patients about their treatments, assisting with prior authorization processes, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure timely medication access. Additionally, you will monitor patient progress, document interventions, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and service delivery.
You will primarily focus on the following responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure that patients have timely access to their prescribed therapies.
- Provide insights to prescribers on the clinical aspects of specialty medications including drug selection, dosing, and monitoring protocols.
- Assist in managing prior authorizations, insurance verifications, and formulary options to facilitate patient access to medications.
- Review and manage prescription data entry, medication interactions, contraindications, and other safety considerations related to specialty medications.
- Coordinate with Patient Care Coordinators and other pharmacy team members to ensure that patients receive seamless service and support.
- Assist patients in understanding the therapeutic goals of their treatment, helping them manage their conditions and improve quality of life.
- Offer support and resources for managing financial barriers, insurance, and access to medication assistance programs.
- Document clinical interventions, medication adjustments, and follow-up actions to ensure continuous care and adherence to therapy within the pharmacy management system.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA, for patient confidentiality and documentation standards.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care.
- Monitor medication therapy outcomes and patient satisfaction, providing feedback to improve services and reduce potential risks.
- Stay current with the latest trends, therapies, and guidelines in the specialty pharmacy field.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development through attending conferences, seminars, and other education opportunities.
- Mentor and support other pharmacy team members in their clinical education and career growth.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Other activities and projects as necessary.
First 90 Days
- Become proficient in the pharmacy management system, patient management system, and internal workflows.
- Establish relationships with healthcare providers, patients, and partner pharmacies.
- Actively participate in identifying areas for process improvement and enhancing patient care services.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- A pharmacy degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
- Active Illinois pharmacist license in good standing.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing pharmacy, specialty pharmacy or a related field is preferred.
Preferred:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
- Additional multi-state pharmacist licensure.
- Specialty Pharmacy Certification from the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP).
- Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification (for example, Pharmacotherapy or Oncology Pharmacy).
- Experience in patient counseling, medication therapy management, and prior authorization processes.
- Knowledge of insurance formularies, specialty medications, and drug therapies used in the treatment of chronic or complex diseases.
Pay Range
$100k - $149k annual salary
