Our AI-based software platform, developed in close cooperation with radiologists in Germany, reduces variability in mammography assessment and relieves specialists of repetitive routine work in screening diagnostics.
Our mission is to make breast cancer early detection more effective, measurable, and accessible. By improving early detection and evidence-based outcomes, we contribute to a national initiative to strengthen women's health in Germany.
Vara was founded in 2018 as the first company of the leading European AI venture studio Merantix and has since grown into an international team of 25 dedicated professionals. We are looking for a
Financial Manager with solid financial knowledge and a passion for healthcare and deep tech sectors. The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of professional experience and is motivated to develop further in our dynamic team.
Responsibilities:Financial reporting and management:- Responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (according to HGB and IFRS) in cooperation with other departments and external tax consultants.
- Conducting thorough financial analyses to support business decisions and identify financial and operational trends.
- Ensuring timely and accurate reporting to the founding team and investors.
- Further development of financial systems, processes, and internal control mechanisms to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Budgeting and forecasting:- Assisting in preparing and continuously maintaining financial plans (P&L and cash flow).
- Collaborating with the founding team and departments to align budgets with the company's strategy.
- Analyzing deviations between actual and planned figures, developing action options, and communicating findings to internal and external stakeholders.
Operational financial management:- Managing daily operations in financial accounting, including accounts receivable and accounts payable management.
- Ensuring compliance with legal requirements in taxes, finance, and payroll in close cooperation with local tax consultants.
Grant management:- Continuous handling of existing grant projects, timely communication with external authorities, and regular updates to the founding team.
- Monitoring and coordinating new grant applications in coordination with external consultants and internal financial planning.
Your profile
- A completed degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Additional qualifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, ACCA) are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Solid knowledge of accounting according to HGB and IFRS.
- 2-3 years of professional experience in controlling, auditing, accounting, FP&A, financial management, consulting, or venture capital – ideally in healthcare or deep tech sectors. Fundraising experience is a plus.
- Proficient with financial software (e.g., Datev, Agicap) and MS Excel/Google Sheets.
- Proven experience collaborating with external and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High motivation and strong result orientation.
- Fluent in German and English.
