Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH)
The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a globally recognised institute in the field of global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, teaching and services at local, national and international levels. Around 1,000 people from 96 countries work at Swiss TPH in areas such as infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health, and health systems and programmes.
Centre for Travel and Tropical Medicine
The Centre for Travel and Tropical Medicine provides pre-travel advice and post-travel care for travellers from Basel and the surrounding area. As the national reference centre for imported parasitic diseases in humans, it offers a variety of services to physicians and hospitals throughout Switzerland.
Position: Underassistant (100%)
The role is offered as an internship/underassistantship at 100% (full time). The position is based at the new "Turmhaus" location in central Basel and involves clinical and advisory work in travel and tropical medicine.
Responsibilities
- Conduct travel medicine consultations independently after an initial training period
- Actively participate in the clinical assessment of returning travellers
- Prepare patient reports on various tropical and travel medicine questions
- Perform routine clinical examinations such as tropical or diving fitness assessments
- Carry out small scientific tasks under supervision, such as writing case reports, revising information leaflets/guidelines, and responding to scientific enquiries
Profile / Qualifications
- Currently enrolled medical student
- Strong interest in tropical and travel medicine
- Team player with coordination skills and attention to detail
- Enjoys working with people from very different backgrounds
- German at native-speaker level and good knowledge of English and French

Conditions
- Internship duration: positions are offered for a minimum of 2 months, because independent work in travel counselling requires a longer induction period
- Workload: 100%; working hours are usually about 8 hours per day
- Remuneration: CHF 1,200.00 per month (100%)
