Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, teaching, and services at local, national, and international levels. About 950 people from 95 countries work at Swiss TPH in areas such as infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health, as well as health systems and programs.
The Department of Medical Parasitology and Infection Biology (MPI) researches the biology and transmission of pathogens. Insights from this research contribute to the development of new diagnostics, therapies, and vaccines against malaria, tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, Chagas disease, and other neglected tropical diseases.
Within the exciting world of malaria research in the Malaria Drug Discovery Group led by Dr. Matthias Rottmann, we are currently seeking a committed Junior Lab Technician in the Parasite Chemotherapy Unit. Your main task will be to support and advance the laboratory processes in this team.
Your various tasks include:
- Cultivation of different malaria strains in BSL2 and C laboratories
- Testing of new substances in in vitro drug screening against Plasmodium falciparum
- Characterization of active substances using specific assays (Parasite Reduction Ratio, Ring-stage Survival, etc.)
- Planning, execution and in vivo testing of active test substances in mouse and mosquito models
- Assisting with the training of students and apprentices
- Support in laboratory management, including ordering consumables and maintaining databases
- Technical support and development of various research projects and new experimental methods
Your experience and skills include:
- Completed apprenticeship as a laboratory technician EFZ biology
- Basic knowledge in cell biology, pharmacology and molecular biology is an advantage
- Completed LTK1 course
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Proactive and well-organized personality
- Fluent knowledge of German and English
- Flexibility to work on weekends and public holidays
