The Digital Health Unit is currently looking for a strategic implementer to further develop its thematic profile and portfolio as

Head of Digital Health Unit (80 – 100%)


In this role, you will lead and strategically steer the Digital Health Unit (DHU) consisting of a team of about 15 collaborators in Allschwil and of around 20 project collaborators abroad.

Your focus will be on strengthening engagement with stakeholders in the digital health innovation eco-system, building new partnerships including project acquisitions, and collaborating with other departments to further develop the institute’s digital health strategy and competencies.

Your various responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical leadership in digital health including innovations, needs assessment, design, implementation and evaluation of digital interventions for health systems strengthening (e.g. clinical decision support systems and clinical content authoring; insurance informatics; health information systems and interoperability; data-driven approaches to health systems transformation)
  • Lead and manage larger-scale projects and partnerships, ensuring timely delivery and impact
  • Oversee team development, including recruitment, mentoring, performance monitoring, and career progression of unit collaborators and external consultants
  • Manage continuous budget planning and control as well as resource allocation
  • Represent the unit and Swiss TPH externally, engaging in networks and building new partnerships, as well as strengthening the organisation’s visibility and its positioning in the digital health eco-system
  • As a member of the departmental management team, contribute to further developing and strengthening the expertise, range of services and internal organisation of the department.

You should have the following experience and skills:

  • Higher degree (MSc, PhD, MBA) in relevant discipline e.g. Public Health, Health Informatics, or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience in the evidence-based design, implementation, and evaluation of digital health interventions and innovations in a variety of contexts, with expertise e.g. in health information systems, insurance / social protection informatics, digital/AI-driven clinical decision support systems; with a solid, practical understanding of health system challenges and strengthening approaches as well as of regulations and governance frameworks in digital health (data protection, interoperability standards)
  • Strong track record in acquiring and leading larger digital health projects or partnerships, from concept to mature and sustainable stage
  • Broad network of relevant players in the digital health innovation eco-system and substantial experience in working with stakeholders in resource-constrained settings, experience to work in Switzerland and Europe is an asset
  • Proven management experience in leading smaller or medium-sized interdisciplinary teams and overseeing financial and operational performance
  • Highly structured, independent working style with a strong ability to delegate and mentor
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English and a second language (preferably French or German)
