The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. Around 1,000 people from 96 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.
Responsibilities
As part of the Engagement & Communications team, you will gain hands-on experience across the full range of internal and external communications activities at Swiss TPH. From content creation and visual design to event support, you will play an active role in how the institute communicates across channels and formats to diverse audiences.
- Content creation: Contribute to content for Swiss TPH’s website, social media, intranet and print materials in English and German, including drafting and editing social posts, news articles, event announcements and internal communications.
- Stakeholder engagement: Support engagement activities with external stakeholders (partners, donors, academic institutions, visiting delegations) including coordinating logistics and preparing materials.
- Visual and multimedia content: Create visual materials such as infographics, short videos and social media graphics using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Event communications and coordination: Assist with organising and communicating events such as symposia, including logistics support and creating content for digital channels.
- General communications support: Contribute to day-to-day communications activities as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.
Requirements
You should have the following experience and skills:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in communications, journalism, public/global health, media or a related field
- Demonstrated interest in communications, public relations or event management
- Fluent in both English and German
- Digitally savvy with a good grasp of social media platforms and interest in visual and multimedia content
- Organised and able to prioritise tasks in a dynamic environment
- Creative with attention to detail and able to find the right tone for different audiences
- A team player who brings initiative and curiosity
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, video editing or CMS tools is an asset
