Job Description
This role is anchored in the business team and will be integrated into the editorial team for strategic decision-making about product offerings. The Senior Vice President, Growth and Content Strategy will leverage STAT’s editorial excellence to meet ambitious revenue and growth goals over the next five to ten years. The role will lead cross-departmental collaboration to maximize drivers of audience and readership, including newsletters, social media, SEO, data, events, and multimedia, and will help determine the best ways to build the subscription business.
Reports to: Co-Founder and Executive Editor
Responsibilities
- Drive STAT’s overall vision and strategy in collaboration with leadership to ensure continued profitability and growth.
- Manage strategic and content priorities, including identifying new initiatives, market opportunities, and products to boost reader engagement and subscriptions.
- Oversee the reader experience and core subscription business, coordinating with product, engineering, and design teams to accelerate subscription growth.
- Set and execute revenue goals for subscriptions and plan for new products; success measured by key performance indicators.
- Work closely with editorial leadership and product and marketing teams to align content strategy with audience behavior and identify areas of editorial focus and investment.
- Champion the use of analytics and audience insights to guide product development, content packaging, user experience, and marketing.
Qualifications
- At least 10 years of experience as a digital media strategist with a track record of developing digital innovations and business models and working closely with editorial teams.
- Fluency in analytics and a strong understanding of digital customers and the competitive landscape for building cutting-edge media operations, especially focused on a niche.
- Experience as a journalist or working closely with journalists and broad connections in the media industry; familiarity with life sciences and/or health care is a plus.
- Proven ability to make informed business and product decisions and to facilitate partnerships for growth.
- Strong leadership skills that build trust, collaboration, and a culture of excellence; openness to new ideas and perspectives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience managing diverse teams and navigating complex problems and conflicts.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment that values experimentation and collaboration; strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience collaborating with design teams and understanding how branding and user experience drive business success.
- Relationship-building skills and a track record of performing well under pressure and meeting deadlines.
- A commitment to inclusion, adaptability, and audience-focused decision making.
Compensation and Benefits
STAT offers a competitive base salary and benefits package, including health insurance, a 401(k) plan, generous vacation, parental leave, and more. The annual salary for this role is $180,000 – $225,000. You will be eligible for an annual bonus.
Location
STAT has colleagues who work regularly from the office and colleagues based in various U.S. cities. Preference is for the candidate to be based in the Boston area, but STAT will consider candidates located anywhere in the United States.
