Role Overview
This role is an opportunity to join App Core & IAM, a foundational Platform team at Benchling. The team owns core functionality for user authentication, authorization, and feature configuration. As an experienced Software Engineer on this team, you will build features and tools that help users unlock the Benchling application, work closely with other Platform and Application teams, and prioritize enterprise-grade security and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end delivery of large-scale application platform projects, from ideation with Product and Customer Success to full rollout, integrating AI-driven experiences where appropriate.
- Engineer across the full stack: architect robust admin backends and APIs, and build intuitive admin experiences that scale with enterprise customers. Ensure system quality and performance through testing and monitoring.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering peers to craft high-impact products that serve users.
- Launch new product experiences from scratch and enhance platform products to reach enterprise-grade maturity.
- Contribute to the evolution of product, platform, and team practices, including tooling, engineering processes, and hiring.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong coding skills and engineering fundamentals; able to turn requirements into well-architected, maintainable, and tested code.
- Experience building scalable, reliable systems with attention to performance and user impact.
- Leadership in engineering practices: high standards in testing, code quality, reviews, version control, and workflows.
- Proven ability to work across teams with product, design, and platform groups to ship cohesive solutions.
- Strategic problem solving for complex, ambiguous technical challenges with focus on long-term impact and scalability.
- Comfortable advocating thoughtfully for technical solutions that improve quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Experience mentoring others and contributing to team growth through onboarding, pairing, and process improvement.
- Clear and effective communicator in cross-functional settings.
- IAM experience is not required.
How We Work
Benchling offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes in-office collaboration. Employees are expected to be on-site three days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday).
Salary Range
Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay. The candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location. For this role the base salary range is $186,622 to $252,488.
