The role:
Oviva offers a specialist Tier 3 weight management service for people with complex obesity and seeks a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to expand the psychology team. The role involves working with psychology and dietetics teams. It is for a PWP with weight management and/or eating disorders experience to deliver a mixed clinical approach service. The service uses a multidisciplinary team approach, combining consultant-led care with specialist dietetics, clinical and health psychology, and technology to enhance access and patient outcomes.
The psychology service provides therapy to support motivation and success towards weight management goals. The PWP uses technology like the Oviva app and telephone coaching for remote care and patient progress monitoring in collaboration with the MDT. The role applies CBT and ACT principles.
Comprehensive training, clinical supervision, and support from the Clinical Lead for Psychology or other psychologists in the team are provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver one-to-one remote patient weight management care via phone/video calls or Oviva smartphone app, mainly supporting changes in eating and activity behaviors, not treating common mental health problems.
- Assess patients for psychological therapy within the weight management service using appropriate assessment methods.
- Create individual formulations based on assessments, providing therapeutic weight management and lifestyle change input alongside dietetic support, leveraging clinical expertise, psychological theory, care packages, current research, and guidelines like NICE.
- Work autonomously, manage clinical risk appropriately, with professional guidance available as needed.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records and follow internal recording guidelines.
- Keep CPD up to date, receive regular clinical supervision as per good practice guidelines, and meet BABCP registration requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality as per Data Protection Act and ensure participant confidentiality.
- Create relevant internal or patient-facing service content as needed.
Key relationships:
This role is central to the clinical delivery team, providing psychology support for the Tier 3 weight management service. Internally, liaises with the multidisciplinary team, including dietitians, nutritionists, psychologists, service managers, clinical leads for Dietetics and Psychology, patient coordinators, nurses, and medical lead.
Job requirements
Required qualifications and experience:
- Qualified PWP with at least one year of experience in an IAPT service.
- Minimum one year experience in weight management and/or bariatric care in a mental health setting or with patients living with obesity and long-term health conditions.
- Comfortable using technology for patient notes and willing to learn Oviva’s technology.
- Experience offering weight management support.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, timely and effective communication.
- Time management skills to handle caseload independently, including booking follow-ups and calendar management.
Desirable:
- Experience providing remote care and using technology for therapeutic goals.
- Experience working with diabetes or long-term physical health conditions (training provided).
- Experience in MDT settings, e.g., with dietitians.
- Experience in offering physical activity support.
- BABCP registration.
- Postgraduate Diploma as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner.
