Job Description
This role will be based in Bangalore, India. The work location for this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.
As part of our world-class software engineering team, you will be charged with building next-generation infrastructure and platforms for LinkedIn, including but not limited to: an application and service delivery platform, massively scalable data storage and replication systems, cutting-edge search platform, AI platform, experimentation platform, privacy and compliance platform, and more. You will work and learn among top engineers, applying distributed technologies and algorithms, API and systems design, and writing code that performs at extreme scale. LinkedIn has pioneered well-known open-source projects like Apache Kafka, Pinot, Azkaban, Samza, Venice, DataHub, Feather, and also uses industry-standard products like Kubernetes, gRPC and GraphQL.
Observability Experience (OE) Group
The Observability Experience group is chartered to simplify and drive observability for LinkedIn. The Observability Platforms sub-team is responsible for billions of operational metrics ingested every minute within LinkedIn. Observability Platforms maintains the platforms and products for metrics ingestion, storage, retrieval, visualization, alerting, incident creation & escalation, remediation, health-checking and experience platform. The team operates a custom-built platform supporting billions of metrics at millions of QPS.
Responsibilities
- Manage the performance and career development of a team of engineers, and own significant parts of LinkedIn products that require design, architecture, and coding.
- Participate with senior management in developing a long-term technology roadmap.
- Be a role model and professional coach for engineers with a strong bias for action and focus on craftsmanship.
- Work with peers across teams to support and leverage a shared technical stack.
- Manage teams to scale distributed applications; make architectural trade-offs applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns; review code; and deliver with speed and quality.
- Develop multi-tier scalable, high-volume performing, and reliable user-centric applications that operate 24x7.
- Produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of relevant engineering work experience.
- 1+ year of management experience or 1+ year of staff-level engineering experience with management training.
- Hands-on experience developing distributed systems, large-scale systems, databases and/or backend APIs.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of management experience building small to medium-sized teams, demonstrating growth and a track record of successful deliveries.
- Shipped several large-scale projects with dependencies across multiple teams.
- Built and delivered on successful cross-functional partnerships across multiple teams.
- Been actively involved in creation and execution of technical strategy and roadmap.
- Actively coached, mentored and grew team members in their careers.
- Track record in partnering with recruiting to hire and build strong engineering teams.
