About the Role
We're hiring an AI Applied Researcher to drive experimentation and improve our AI systems. This is a technical, research-driven role where you'll evaluate new approaches, run structured experiments in development/prototype environments, and translate findings into clear recommendations the product engineering team can act on. This role focuses on internal impact and is not customer-facing.
What You'll Do
AI Architecture Experimentation
- Design and run structured experiments to evaluate new AI approaches in development and prototype environments.
- Produce clear, evidence-backed findings that identify which approaches work best.
- Stay current on the latest AI research and bring relevant ideas to the team for exploration.
Prompting & Optimization
- Act as the team's expert prompter, reviewing and improving prompts created by the agent platform team.
- Tackle the hardest prompting challenges and unblock iterations that aren't landing.
- Help the team increase productivity by quickly resolving complex prompting problems.
Research & Recommendations
- Translate experimental findings into clear reports and documentation for product engineering.
- Identify foundational opportunities to improve how our AI works.
- Collaborate with engineering leads to prioritize experiments and align on next steps.
What We're Looking For
Must Have
- 2+ years of experience with a PhD, or 4+ years of relevant experience without a PhD.
- Strong hands-on experience with LLMs and generative AI (not traditional ML/deep learning).
- Proven ability to design and run AI experiments and independently explore solutions.
- Expert-level prompting skills with real examples of improving AI outputs.
- Ability to translate high-level business problems into creative AI architectures.
- Strong written communication for producing research reports and documentation.
Preferred
- PhD in a relevant field, especially with LLM-focused research.
- Startup experience and comfort wearing multiple hats and moving fast.
- Familiarity with agentic AI systems, multi-step planning, or adaptive decision-making architectures.
- Experience reading and applying findings from AI research papers.
Compensation
Base salary: $125,000 - $160,000
Equity: Meaningful ownership in a fast-growing healthtech startup.
