The Vice President of Health Economics and Market Access Strategy will lead the development and execution of comprehensive strategies to secure coding, coverage, and payment for Heartflow’s portfolio of products aimed at early diagnosis of coronary artery disease. This role works with the SVP of Market Access and Reimbursement and is responsible for strategic and operational market access aspects, engaging providers, societies, government and commercial payers, and key stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and implement health economics and market access strategy, driving cost-effectiveness analyses with internal teams and external experts.
- Lead market access initiatives with SVP of Market Access & Reimbursement to secure coding, coverage, and payment via engagement with physician specialty societies, CMS, USPSTF, AMA, and others.
- Align market access insights with organizational priorities, informing stakeholders for payment advocacy and expansion into new OUS markets.
- Design communication tools articulating clinical and economic value, including economic models, HTA submissions, and payer dossiers.
- Drive evidence generation with government affairs and clinical teams to strengthen value proposition with policymakers and regulatory bodies.
- Engage senior leaders, payers, and providers to secure coverage, reimbursement, and negotiate payer contracts for products and services.
- Foster payer partnerships post-coverage to support education, explore alternative payment models, and accelerate adoption.
- Anticipate market trends and cultivate team capabilities for innovative market access strategies.
- Educate cross-functional teams on reimbursement and market access strategies aligned with business objectives.
Skills Needed
- Exceptional communication skills with proven success leading teams for coding, coverage, and payment of innovative healthcare technologies.
- Deep understanding of reimbursement mechanisms, especially for at-risk asymptomatic populations.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills to build and lead high-performing teams including internal staff and external consultants.
- Successful history in developing and presenting models quantifying clinical and economic impact of new medical technologies.
- Significant Health Economics & Reimbursement (HE&R) experience in the medical device sector.
- Proven capability to lead health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), including budget impact models, cost-effectiveness analyses, real-world evidence generation, and claims database studies.
Educational Requirements & Work Experience
- Over 10 years of success in health economics and reimbursement for medical devices, diagnostics, or pharmaceuticals, with strong connections to U.S. private and government payer stakeholders and experience with coding, coverage, and payment in at-risk asymptomatic populations.
- Minimum of 7 years managing and leading teams in Market Access, Payer Relations, and Health Economics, preferably across multiple geographic locations and time zones.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
The position offers an estimated base salary range of $250,000 to $320,000, plus bonus and equity. There is a strong preference for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area, but remote candidates willing to travel up to 50% will be considered.
