About California Licensed Therapist, 1099 Contractor at Headspace:
Headspace is currently seeking part-time, independently licensed therapists to provide direct, virtual care as part of a multidisciplinary team. We are currently accepting contractor applicants who are licensed in California, but reside outside of California. For those who are licensed and reside in CA, please refer to our W2 posting.
Contractor therapists are asked to offer a minimum of 5 sessions/week, with flexibility to offer additional sessions when needed. More is always welcome depending on your schedule. Note that due to care demand and member scheduling fluctuations, it could take weeks to achieve a consistent schedule.
Our pay rate varies based on your state of residence and currently ranges from $65-$90 per session. Pay rates are determined by factors including location, licensure, and other relevant considerations, and will be confirmed by your recruiter during the interview process. Session length is 60 min for intake and 45 min for follow up appointment, with concurrent note-taking expected and included in the session rate.
All Headspace therapists must be licensed and reside in the US. All work must be provided in the U.S. Data, specifically personal health information may not be accessed, disclosed, or used outside of the U.S. The U.S. is limited to the 50 states of the United States and does not include U.S. territories like Puerto Rico.

What you will do:
- Provide high quality, innovative tele-therapy over HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform
- Complete, sign and lock clinical case notes in EMR within 48 hours of session. Note completion is part of session rate.
- Maintain personalized database for proof of licensure, updates, expiration dates, personal info, etc.
- Keep availability calendar up to date
- Stay in regular communication with clinical leadership and respond within 24 hours even if not working
- Work with collaborative care team including health coaches, therapists, psychiatrists, and external providers
What you will bring:
- Available to offer at least 5 sessions per week, with ability to flex up when needed
- Night and weekend flexibility a plus
- Clinical competence in evidence-based practices (CBT, DBT, ACT, Mindfulness, etc.) and measurement-based care
- Knowledge, ability, and commitment to culturally responsive care
- Ability and willingness to deliver concurrent documentation compensated by session rate
- Willingness and confidence to integrate cutting-edge technology in care
- Familiarity and confidence with care delivery technology - applications, tech tools, google web-apps, video conferencing, EMR, etc. Tech-savviness is a must
- Safe secure location with reliable internet for Zoom-based psychotherapy
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
- 3+ years clinical psychotherapy experience with individuals, couples or families
- Experience with risk management and higher acuity cases
- Independent clinical license (PsyD, LICSW, LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC) in good standing without need for clinical supervision
Preferred (If applicable):
- Licensure in multiple states valued
- Licensed psychologist willing to apply or enrolled with PSYPACT
- Adolescent or Spanish specialty
- Familiarity with Headspace app and content
- Willingness to offer evening hours to support member care flexibility
Privacy Statement
All member records are protected according to Headspace Privacy Policy. Employees and contractors cannot access Headspace products/services but receive benefits per company plan. Dual relationships are avoided. Applicants who have received coaching or clinical services at Headspace must wait until care is complete before applying. Employment may involve account deactivation to prevent dual use of services. Steps may be taken to ensure ethical obligations including delayed start or leave of absence to protect individuals.
