About California Licensed Therapist, 1099 Contractor at Headspace:
Headspace is currently seeking part-time, independently licensed therapists to provide direct, virtual care as part of a multidisciplinary team. They are accepting contractor applicants who are licensed in California but reside outside of California. For those who are licensed and reside in CA, please refer to their W2 posting.
Contractor therapists are asked to offer a minimum of 5 sessions/week, with flexibility to offer additional sessions when needed. It may take weeks to achieve a consistent schedule due to fluctuating care demand.
The pay rate varies based on state of residence, ranging from $65-$90 per session. Pay rates are determined by factors including location, licensure, and other considerations, and will be confirmed during the interview process. Session length is 60 minutes for intake and 45 minutes for follow-up, with concurrent note-taking expected and included in the session rate.
All Headspace therapists must be licensed and reside in the US. All work must be provided within the US 50 states, excluding US territories, due to healthcare service regulations and personal health information protection.

What you will do:
- Provide high-quality tele-therapy to Headspace patients over HIPAA compliant video conferencing
- Complete clinical notes in EMR within 48 hours of session; note completion is part of the session rate
- Maintain personalized database with licensure and personal information
- Keep availability calendar updated
- Communicate regularly with clinical leadership and respond to emails within 24 hours
- Work collaboratively with care team including health coaches, therapists, psychiatrists, and providers
What you will bring:
- Available to offer at least 5 sessions per week with ability to flex up; night and weekend flexibility a plus
- Clinical competence in evidence-based practices like CBT, DBT, ACT, Mindfulness, and measurement-based care
- Commitment to culturally responsive care
- Ability and willingness to deliver concurrent documentation
- Confidence integrating technology in care delivery; tech-savvy in applications, web-apps, conferencing, EMR
- Secure location and reliable internet for Zoom-based psychotherapy
- Effective communication and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
- 3+ years experience providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, or families
- Experience with risk management and higher acuity cases
- Independent clinical license in PsyD, LICSW, LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC in good standing without supervision needed
Preferred:
- Licensure in multiple states valued
- Licensed psychologist willing to apply or enrolled in PSYPACT
- Adolescent or Spanish specialty
- Familiarity with Headspace app and content
- Willing to offer some evening hours for flexibility
