Job Description
As a Healthguide (Remote Medical Assistant), you will strengthen the connection between patients and their primary care providers, help patients navigate their care, resolve healthcare issues, and improve communication with medical practices. Healthguides work primarily remotely and collaborate with the patient’s medical practice staff and Guidehealth’s Case Management team to manage targeted patient populations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Work primarily remotely as an extension of the medical practice, collaborating with clinical teams and case management.
- Assist patients to achieve better health outcomes by addressing questions and concerns, connecting them with medical practice staff, implementing care plans, and closing care gaps.
- Escalate medical issues appropriately and assist with referrals to specialty care and community-based organizations (CBOs).
- Accurately document patients’ medical history and medical issues in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Understand the referral and prior authorization process.
- Meet assigned Key Performance Indicators to support positive patient outcomes while decreasing medical spend.
- Engage and schedule high-risk patients using calls, texts, portals, and emails.
- Follow all security policies and procedures to protect PHI and Guidehealth intellectual property.
- Position may require occasional compensated travel (approximately 10–15%) to clinical sites in the Atlanta, GA area for patient and provider engagement and retinal eye exams (training provided).
Qualifications
Required and preferred qualifications include:
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required with 2 or more years of experience.
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience in patient coordination, motivational interviewing, critical listening, and behavioral change management.
- Strong interpersonal skills with empathy, patience, professionalism, and respect.
- Exceptional documentation skills and ability to document patient interviews in real time using software.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and primary care practice workflows.
- Knowledge of social determinants of health.
- Competence with multiple technology platforms (EHRs, care management analytics, phone systems, Microsoft Office).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Familiarity with EHRs such as eClinicalWorks, EPIC, Athena, Cerner.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage competing priorities with attention to detail.
- Reliable transportation and a valid state driver’s license for occasional travel to provider sites.
- Adherence to patient confidentiality by using a provided headset and maintaining a private home office.
Additional Information
The base pay range for this role is between $21–$24 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Final base pay depends on factors such as skills, experience, education, location, and certifications.
Guidehealth is a fully remote company and provides necessary equipment to employees at no charge. Employees must provide their own internet connection capable of video calls; required minimum speed: 100 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload.
