glaucare
Overview
glaucare is focused on addressing the global lack of access to ophthalmological care affecting 2.5 billion people worldwide.
Problem
According to the World Health Organisation, many people lack access to eye care, leading to blindness from diseases like age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, and infections, particularly in regions with few or no eye doctors.
Solution
glaucare developed ophmo, a mobile eye clinic that enables eye doctors, clinics, and local health organizations to conduct preventive eye examinations in rural areas to prevent blindness. Trained medical assistants perform registrations and measurements using devices contained in a portable case. An ophthalmologist remotely diagnoses using data visualized in an app or PDF, and results are communicated back to patients through the assistants.
The ophmo case
The ophmo case is compact and portable, about the size of airplane hand luggage, and weighs 7.5 kilos. It contains an iPad with the app, five different measuring devices, a visual acuity test display board, and accessories such as batteries.
Usability and spreading
The ophmo case is designed for ease of use and learning, with color coding matching the app and devices. It takes about a week for a person with intermediate education to learn to use it. The product has been tested at Kisii Eye Hospital in Kenya and has interest from distributors in West and East Africa, South-East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Interested parties can order ophmo cases or send inquiries via the contact form on the website or by email at [email protected].
