VP, International Licensing (Media Publisher)
Based in: London | New York | Asia (Global Role). This is a truly global role with an initial focus on the Japanese market. The VP, International Licensing will build Fortune’s International Licensing business from the ground up as a foundational, individual contributor role responsible for creating a new revenue vertical through international licensing, originating, negotiating, and launching licensing partnerships with publishers and media operators.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Ownership
- Own international licensing revenue, accountable for pipeline creation, deal conversion, and long-term growth.
- Build Fortune’s licensing business from zero to first revenues, establishing scalable commercial models and repeatable deal structures.
- Identify, engage, and close licensing partnerships with top-tier publishers, media groups, and events operators—initial focus across Asia and Japan.
- Leverage an existing senior-level network to accelerate market entry and secure anchor partners.
Deal Execution & Commercial Leadership
- Lead end-to-end deal execution: prospecting, valuation, financial modelling, negotiations, and contract close.
- Structure and negotiate high-value licensing agreements (minimum guarantees, revenue share, performance milestones, renewals).
- Balance aggressive revenue growth with Fortune’s brand standards and IP protection.
Stakeholder Leadership & Growth
Serve as single point of ownership for international licensing across editorial, events, commercial, legal, and operations teams; manage licensee onboarding and launches; track performance against revenue and growth KPIs and refine go-to-market frameworks based on market feedback.
Candidate Profile
10-15 years experience in business development, partnerships, or licensing within media, financial publishing, or event-led media organisations. Proven revenue generator with experience launching new markets or commercial verticals from scratch. Strong network of publishers and media executives, hands-on experience in Asia—particularly Japan—preferred. Track record closing complex, multi-year licensing deals and strong financial/commercial acumen. Comfortable as a senior individual contributor and effective in ambiguous, early-stage environments.
Compensation & Work Model
Total compensation up to $250,000 USD (dependent on base location and experience). Annual bonus: target 25% of base salary tied to revenue performance, signed licences, and market launches. Work model: hybrid or fully remote depending on base location and business needs. Location flexibility with compensation adjusted to local market norms.
Location & Travel
Flexible global location (London, New York, or Asia). Significant international travel required, particularly across Asia and Japan, to drive deal-making and partner relationships.
