Senior Software Engineer (AI)

About Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus (or 'Euc' for short) is an Australian founded digital healthcare company on a mission to solve the world’s biggest healthcare challenges - including fertility, and behavioural change around chronic conditions such as weight loss, diabetes, and mental health.
Founded in Australia in 2019, it has helped over 500K patients globally by combining technology, design, and operational excellence to provide the best clinical support wherever patients are.
The company has 5 clinics (Juniper, Pilot, Kin, Software, & Compound) focusing on personalising experiences for different demographics, powered by a growing team across 5 countries (Australia, UK, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines).
Eucalyptus has raised over AUD$160M in funding from Australian and Silicon Valley investors and plans to expand into more markets, offline channels, and new conditions.

About the role (What you'll be doing)

Eucalyptus is looking for a Senior Software Engineer I, Full Stack (AI focus), to join their 40-person engineering team. The engineer will build scalable, production-grade AI-powered features across a multi-brand platform, from patient-facing conversational tools to intelligent decision-support systems.
Responsibilities include integrating with foundational LLM APIs (Gemini, OpenAI, etc.), designing scalable architectures for generative use cases, collaborating cross-functionally to deliver AI-enabled telehealth experiences, and acting as an AI subject matter expert.
The engineer will provide architectural guidance, ensure AI systems are production-ready, safe, and scalable, and lead the creation and ownership of shared LLM infrastructure like prompt management and safety tooling.

What success looks like in this role

Short-term (first 5 months): Design, build, and ship at least one customer-facing LLM-powered feature end-to-end.
Long-term: Enable all engineering teams to independently deliver LLM features by providing shared infrastructure, tooling, and best practices.

About you (Who you are)

Strong full-stack engineering experience (Typescript, Go/Node, GCP, distributed systems).
1–2 years of recent hands-on experience building LLM-powered features in production (e.g. conversational agents, personalised recommendation engines, retrieval-augmented systems, agentic multi-agent systems).
Familiarity with LangChain, LangGraph, RAG patterns, and other LLM integration frameworks.
Comfortable with an 80:20 individual contributor to tech leadership split, with potential for more leadership responsibilities.
Excellent project breakdown, estimation, and execution skills for complex initiatives with multiple workstreams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to simplify complex AI concepts.
Experience building reusable components and AI-enabled services across applications and codebases.
Curious and resourceful, comfortable navigating ambiguity and problem solving without having all the answers.
Bonus: Experience in regulated environments, AI observability tooling, or guiding AI adoption in new teams.
