About the Role
We’re looking for a talented and driven AI Product Engineer to join our team at Bunkerhill Health. Our platform processes over 200,000 CT scans and millions of patient records each year — directly improving patient outcomes across multiple health systems.
In this role, you’ll take ownership of product features end-to-end, from design through deployment, working closely with cross-functional partners to deliver software that impacts real patients. There are no product managers, so much of the product ownership falls to the AI Product Engineer. You will work on building and deploying agentic workflows at scale. This role is primarily backend-focused, with opportunities across the stack.
We have a sunny office in SoMa, San Francisco and the team works in-office four days per week.
Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality, maintainable, and scalable technical work, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and readability.
- Take full ownership of product features, from ideation and design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
- Show initiative by staying current on emerging technologies and suggesting improvements to our stack and processes.
- Demonstrate reliability through proactive communication, clear timelines, and the ability to unblock yourself and others when needed.
- Develop a deep intuition of the product you are building.
- Collaborate across disciplines — with clinicians, end users, and non-technical team members — translating goals into clear, actionable technical solutions.
- Collaborate within engineering through active ideation, thoughtful code reviews, and helping teammates design and deliver robust solutions.
Requirements
- 2+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Strong ability to learn and adapt to new languages, frameworks, and technologies.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language — the stack is primarily Python + Rust.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- A genuine interest in applying technology to improve healthcare.
- Comfort using AI coding tools.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with infrastructure tooling: Kubernetes, Helm, Kustomize, Terraform, AWS/GCP.
- Experience with Python frameworks such as Django or Celery.
- Experience with or interest in Rust.
- Familiarity with frontend languages and frameworks like Typescript and React.
- Willingness to interface with end users and assist with use case discovery.
- Comfort interacting with LLM tooling and willingness to learn about agentic workflows.

Compensation Range: $160K - $260K
