Senior Engineer, EMR Integrations

About the Role

Arbiter is the AI-powered care orchestration system that unites healthcare. Today, healthcare runs on $100B+ in fragmented point solutions that can't see the full picture. We replace them with a single intelligent system that sits on top of EMRs and existing workflows, unifies clinical, policy, and financial data, then automates the actions that close care gaps - starting with site-of-care optimization.
Backed by one of the largest seed rounds in health tech history and operators who bring the expertise and distribution to scale nationally, we're building the connected infrastructure healthcare should have had all along.

Our Engineering Culture & Values

We are a high-performing group of engineers dedicated to delivering innovative, high-quality solutions to our clients and business partners. We believe in:
  • Engineering Excellence: Taking immense pride in our technical craft and the products we build, treating both with utmost respect and care.
  • Impact-Driven Development: Firmly committed to engineering high-quality, fault-tolerant, and highly scalable systems that evolve seamlessly with business needs, minimizing disruption.
  • Collaboration Over Ego: Valuing exceptional work and groundbreaking ideas above all else. We seek talented individuals who are accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment and are driven to ship often to achieve significant impact.
  • Continuous Growth: Fostering an environment of continuous learning, mentorship, and professional development, where you can deepen your expertise and grow your career.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineer, EMR Integration, you will be the primary technical leader responsible for connecting our platform to our partners' most critical clinical systems:
  • Epic Integration Leadership: Lead the technical design, development, certification, and implementation of integrations with partner Epic EMR systems.
  • Partner-Facing Collaboration: Act as the primary technical point of contact for healthcare organizations. Work side-by-side with their business, IT, informatics, and analyst teams to understand their unique Epic configuration, clinical workflows, and technical constraints.
  • Solution & API Development: Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure integration solutions using Epic's APIs (e.g., FHIR, App Orchard, Interconnect) and modern backend technologies.
  • Hands-On Technical Problem-Solving: Triage, diagnose, and resolve complex integration challenges, data mapping issues, and workflow blockages in live partner environments.
  • Cross-Functional Bridge: Collaborate closely with our internal product and core engineering teams to communicate partner feedback, advocate for necessary features, and ensure the core platform can support real-world partner needs.
  • Deployment & Operations: Manage the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of integration services, adhering to partner security, compliance, and infrastructure standards.
  • Technical Documentation: Create and maintain clear technical documentation, integration guides, and best practices for our partners and internal teams.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship, championing best practices in integration architecture, security, and data handling.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend development and complex systems integration.
  • Direct, hands-on experience integrating with Epic EMR systems.
  • Deep knowledge of healthcare data standards and APIs, specifically FHIR and HL7v2.
  • Proven experience in a partner-facing or client-facing technical role (e.g., Solutions Architect, Technical Consultant, or Forward Deployed Engineer).
  • You must understand the challenges and architecture of integrating with a major EMR.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders at partner organizations.
  • Strong expertise in building and operating applications within distributed systems architectures.
  • Extensive experience with modern API design (RESTful, gRPC) and security protocols (SAML, OAuth 2.0, mTLS).
  • Intimate knowledge of and ability to implement comprehensive testing strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership and working with cross-functional partners to deliver a product.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Epic's core database (Chronicles) and its programming language (MUMPS/M) for deep system-level workflow customization.
  • Epic certification (e.g., Bridges, App Orchard, Chronicles) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with message queues or streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, Google Cloud Pub/Sub).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS) and associated services.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment.
  • Deep understanding of HIPAA and other healthcare compliance regulations.
