Job Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a self-driven, organized, and enthusiastic pathologist to join our team in Berlin either part time or full time. In this role, you will work directly with our team and partners such as global pharma companies, biotechs, and academia, supporting the execution of client and in-house scientific research programs. Close collaboration with AI model development teams in tissue-based translational research is expected. You will be involved in project scoping, cohort and tissue assembly, AI model strategy planning and development, and presentation of results to various stakeholders.
You will support a diverse team of biologists, machine learning engineers, data scientists, regulatory experts, and business experts with your pathology expertise to develop meaningful and clinically relevant AI applications across a variety of scientific projects.
Key duties include:
- Providing annotations over a wide range of tissues and diseases (malignant and non-malignant)
- Assessing AI model performance and guiding optimization strategies
- Consulting on project design, scoping, and planning with a focus on clinical/pathological relevance and feasibility
- Supporting cohort and tissue collection composition
- Accompanying tissue-based quality control initiatives
- Collaborating closely with scientific and technical experts to ensure timely task delivery
- Supporting client presentations with pathology input
- Educating team members on relevant pathology topics
- Providing pathology consultation related to the development and risk management of AI-based medical devices
What We Are Looking For
We seek candidates at an intermediate to advanced stage of anatomical pathology training or those board-certified. A broad knowledge across different organs and pathology disciplines including immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology is crucial. Experience in high-quality translational research focused on oncological or inflammatory diseases is important. Additional experience in digital image analysis, multiplex immunofluorescence, and AI model development for histology questions is a plus. Strong preference is given to candidates able to work from Berlin.
- MD with intermediate/advanced anatomical pathology training or board certification
- Diagnostic experience across a wide range of organs and diseases, including immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology
- Experience in translational research, ideally digital image analysis
- Curiosity to learn about various clinical scientific topics
- Effective time management and prioritization skills across multiple projects at different stages
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with specialists from technical and scientific backgrounds
- Team player in an international team environment
- Attention to detail in written and visual communication
- Fluent in English
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Experience in tissue annotations for digital image analyses
- Experience with multiplex immunofluorescence imaging
- Experience in neuropathology
